Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

In the book of Acts we see a picture of a living, growing, Spirit-filled church. One of the things we learn is that the church shared meals together (Acts 2:42). This Sunday (which is Children’s Day) after church we have opportunity to enjoy fellowship together over a picnic lunch. The plan is to eat in the church grounds - but if it’s wet we’ll still go ahead (inside!)

How do you respond to the events of this past week in Manchester?

On two particular occasions in the Gospels we find Jesus face to face with human suffering. In John’s Gospel Jesus is standing at the grave of a friend – a place of personal suffering. Then in Luke we read of Him approaching Jerusalem – overlooking an entire city that had suffered much in so many ways.

What do you say at such moments? What do you do? How do you react?

On both occasions the Bible simply tells us this: ‘Jesus wept’. Words were not enough.

This Sunday in Ballyhenry at 7pm we are delighted to be hosting a Service of Recognition for Accredited Preachers and Auxiliary Ministers. We are hosting this on behalf of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Council for Training in Ministry. We look forward to welcoming Accredited Preachers and Auxiliary Ministers from across Ireland, along with friends and family. The special guest speaker at the service will be the Moderator of the General Assembly Rt Rev Dr Frank Sellar.

This Sunday in Ballyhenry we look forward to Lorna Morrison speaking at our 11am service. Lorna is one of our own members, and works as North West Regional Staff Worker with Christian Unions Ireland (formerly IFES Ireland). Lorna was commissioned to this work in September 2015 and since then we have hugely appreciated following her work and being partners with her in mission.

This Sunday gives an opportunity to get caught up as Lorna continues in her role. We are thankful for our mission partners - do be encouraged to come along on Sunday!

It is the next book in the New Testament (the book of Acts) which takes up the story. It is to this book which we are turning for a series entitled The Spreading Flame scheduled to  run trough to the end of the summer.

Acts begins with a promise where Jesus said:
