Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

This weekend we celebrate the second Sunday in advent and as such we will be lighting the second candle on our 'Advent Crown' as our countdown to Christmas continues. In our Bible talk this Sunday (11am) we come near to the end of Paul's letter to the Philippians, looking at Philippians 4 vs 4 - 9.

As you prepare for Sunday morning you might like to reflect upon the invitation and the promise found at the heart of verses 6-7:

This Sunday we meet at 11am for our morning service. Niall will be speaking on the theme of 'Standing Firm' looking at Philippians 4 vs 1-3. In this talk we will be exploring how 'friction' was part of church life in Philippi, where two good people (Euodia and Syntyche) struggled to get on. Paul speaks into this situation, not in panic nor in judgment, but in a way that encourages the church to find a common mind in the Lord Jesus Christ.

One of the phrases which the Bible uses to describe Sunday is 'the Lord's Day' (see Revelation 1 vs 10). This 'Lord's Day' we meet for worship at 11am and also at 7pm. At our morning service we pick up the next part of our series in Philippians - looking at chapter 3 vs 15-21 under the title 'Towards Maturity.' When Jesus becomes our Lord He begins a process of calling us to grow. We'll be thinking about what this means and how this points us to the future as we unpack Paul's words to his friends in Philippi.

Kirkpatrick Memorial (in Ballyhackamore, East Belfast) is a church that we sometimes drop into when on holiday. This morning Kirkpatrick hosted BBC Radio Ulster's Morning Service. Really would encourage you to take some time out to listen to this service - honest / thoughtful / pointing to Jesus.

This Sunday morning we meet at 11am for our Communion Service. During the service we hope to welcome a number of new folks into the life of the fellowship in Ballyhenry. Niall will be speaking on the next part of our series on Philippians. We'll be looking at Philippians 3 vs 1-14 (do be encouraged to read ahead) where Paul paints two pictures - one of his life before he became a Christian and one of life after becoming a Christian. In this talk we hope to contrast a 'Self Centred Life' and a 'Jesus Centred Life'.
