Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

This Sunday (14th June) at 5.30pm the choir of Ballyhenry Primary School are taking part in a special community event in Ballyhenry Presbyterian Church. Children from the choir will be singing a number of songs which will tie in to an all-age community service in the church. This annual event (suitable for young and old alike) has become an appreciated item in the life of the church and of the school. Admission is free - do come along - there'll be a cup of tea and juice afterwards.

This Sunday morning we gather at 11am to look at the second part of our series 'The King and the Kingdom'. In Matthew 22 vs 1-14 Jesus likens the Kingdom of Heaven to a Great Banquet. Here is news of an incredible and wonderful invitation. An inviation for anyone and everyone, an invitation which if truely accepted changes will change us. Niall is due to be speaking at this service, which will include supervised creche and summer Sunday School provision.

This Sunday we we meet at 11am and 7pm. At our morning service we begin a new four part series entitled 'The King and the Kingdom'. Niall will be speaking on the topic 'A Big Debt' exploring a parable of Jesus found in Matthew 18 vs 21-35. Our morning service will include a supervised creche, a children's programme and teenage Bible Class.

At 7pm we come to the final part of our series 'Letters from Jesus'. We head to Laodicea listening in as Jesus addressed a church that thought it was doing well but had much that it needed to hear from Jesus Himself.

This incoming week the annual general meeting of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (known as ‘The General Assembly’) will be taking place in the Assembly Buildings (Fisherwick Place, Belfast).

On Monday 6th the opening meeting will be held at 7pm. A communion service will be held on Tuesday 7th at 11.45am.

On Wednesday and Thursday at 12.15pm the Assembly holds its daily worship, which will include praise, prayer and biblical reflection led by the Moderator, and Revs David Cupples & David Bruce.

This Sunday at 11am we have our annual Children's Day Service. Children from Beginners' Sunday School and Primetime will be taking part in the service; singing and doing a drama. Dave Currie (Assistant Minister in Ballysillan Presbyterian) will be giving an all age talk and the Praise Group will be leading our music. As usual there will be a supervised creche.
