Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

Today Neighbours is celebrating its 30th birthday.

I’m of an age where I associate Neighbours with the likes of Scott and Charlene, Des and Daphne, Jane, Mike and Mrs Mangle. It all seems like quite a while ago .

The whole idea of ‘Neighbours’ isn’t a new idea. As far back as the Old Testament book of Leviticus the Bible talks about neighbours. In chapter 19 verse 18 of that book we read: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’

In August 2013 Ramez and Rebecca Atallah visited Ballyhenry. Ramez serves as general director of the Bible Society in Egypt and vice chair of the Lausanne Movement. In February of this year media outlets around the world carried the gruesome story of the execution of 21 Egyptian migrant workers in Libya. Their captors described them as 'People of the Cross'.

This Sunday morning at 11am we pick up the next part of our series on the Old Testament book of Daniel. Niall is due to give the talk focusing in on Daniel 7 vs 1-14. The title is 'Dreams' and we'll be looking at how Daniel, in a dream, was given a perspective changing vision of someone like a 'Son of Man'. Watch in particular for the links between the Old and New Testament and how God calls us to be people today who live in light of His promised future.

Billy Graham is a man with a message. A message of hope. Over the past 70 years he has shared that message with an estimated 2.2 billion people around the world. Now in his 90s Billy Graham has produced a special message for Easter 2015, entitled ‘The Cross’. This Easter we are delighted to be hosting a special screening of this film on Sunday 29th March at 7pm. The film (which lasts 30 minutes) includes Billy Graham and additional material from rap star Lecrea and singer /songwriter Lacey Sturm.

This Sunday we return to our series on the Old Testament book of Daniel. Mark will be looking at the story of Daniel being thrown in to the den of lions (Daniel chapter 6). Coming to a well known story like this it's always worth watching out for the new angles and applications that we may not have seen before.
