Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

This Sunday we we meet at 11am and 7pm. At our morning service we begin a new four part series entitled 'The King and the Kingdom'. Niall will be speaking on the topic 'A Big Debt' exploring a parable of Jesus found in Matthew 18 vs 21-35. Our morning service will include a supervised creche, a children's programme and teenage Bible Class.

At 7pm we come to the final part of our series 'Letters from Jesus'. We head to Laodicea listening in as Jesus addressed a church that thought it was doing well but had much that it needed to hear from Jesus Himself.

This incoming week the annual general meeting of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (known as ‘The General Assembly’) will be taking place in the Assembly Buildings (Fisherwick Place, Belfast).

On Monday 6th the opening meeting will be held at 7pm. A communion service will be held on Tuesday 7th at 11.45am.

On Wednesday and Thursday at 12.15pm the Assembly holds its daily worship, which will include praise, prayer and biblical reflection led by the Moderator, and Revs David Cupples & David Bruce.

This Sunday at 11am we have our annual Children's Day Service. Children from Beginners' Sunday School and Primetime will be taking part in the service; singing and doing a drama. Dave Currie (Assistant Minister in Ballysillan Presbyterian) will be giving an all age talk and the Praise Group will be leading our music. As usual there will be a supervised creche.

This Sunday we are having a special focus on the work of the missions organisation Open Doors. Open Doors is an international ministry serving persecuted Christians and churches worldwide. Through their work they supply Bibles, leadership training, literacy programmes, livelihood support and advocacy services. They also seek to mobilise the church in the UK & Ireland to serve Christians living under religious persecution.

Belfast County Court has delivered judgment in what has become a highly publicised case involving local business Ashers Baking Company. This case has involved important issues of conscience and as such it has been a case that many within both the church and wider society have followed with considerable interest. Further to the Court's ruling the Presbyterian Church in Ireland has issued a statement expressing concern at the finding.
