Psalm 118 - Rejected

Have you ever heard a song and before you know the words are going round in your heard? When this happens it’s often not the whole song but one or two lines that seem to stick with you and that you find yourself singing over and over.

In the book of Psalms there’s a line that gets repeated time and again, and it’s found five times in today’s Psalm, Psalm 118:

‘Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, His love endures forever.’ (vs 1,2,3,4,29)

I have a little box on my desk. It’s the size of the kind of box of matches that my mum used to keep in the kitchen. It’s called an ‘external hard drive’ and you can store computer files on it. Even though it’s small you can get a lot into it. Apparently, into that one small box, you can fit 300 million pages! It is amazing how much can get in to something so small.

Not far from our house you can get the bus into Belfast. You can get a slow bus that goes down the Antrim Road stopping at lots of places along the way, or you can get an ‘Express’ that drives down the M2 getting taking you right into the heart of the city.

There are a lot of names in the Bible. According to Google there are over 1700 individuals named across the Old and New Testaments. That’s a lot of names!

Read: Psalm 114 vs 1-8

There are lots of numbers in the Bible. So for example the animals went into the ark 2 by 2, there were 10 commandments, Jesus called 12 disciples and told them to forgive others ’70 times 7’. One of the less well known, and yet very significant, numbers in the overall story of the Bible is the number 430. This is the number of years during which Israel lived as slaves in the land of Egypt (see Exodus 12:40.
