Read: Psalm 110 vs 1-7

Today we come to Psalm 110. This is a ‘signpost Psalm’, pointing us forward on a journey that ultimately takes us from the Old Testament into the New. These words of David begin in vs 1 with a ‘lord’ (a phrase simply used to refer to an important person) being spoken to by the ‘LORD’ (an Old Testament way of referring to God Himself).

We all like to be liked and there is something very reassuring and comforting when people get on well with us. The Bible encourages us to make the pursuit of good relationships with others a real life priority, so for example in Romans 12:18 we read:

‘If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.’

The theme of ‘God’s unfailing love’ continues on today as we come to the second part of Psalm 107. Everywhere the Psalmist looks they see evidences of the LORD’s wonderful deeds, be that ‘in the deep’ (vs 24), in the desert (vs 33), in times of distress (vs 28), and in times of provision (vs 41).

Psalm 107 is the first chapter in the final section (‘Book Five’) in the book of Psalms. It begins with a call to ‘Give thanks to the LORD’ (vs 1). This call is followed by two reasons; ‘for He is good’ and ‘for His love endures forever.’
