Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

34 ‘Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.’ (Luke 23 vs 34) NIV.

Today we are thinking about just one verse. It comes from Luke’s account of the crucifixion. It is amazing to step back for a moment and to realise that in His goodness God has preserved for us the words that Jesus spoke. We can ‘listen in’ as the Son of God hangs dying on a cross.

Daily Strength – When Anxious

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Daily Strength – When Afraid

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side.’ 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’

Read: Psalm 150 vs 1-6

On Sunday 15th March we began a journey through the book of Psalms. Six months on, today, we reach the end of that journey. You will have your own recollections, your own thoughts, your own experiences of what these last six months have brought. They have been like no other. Yet, like people of faith down through the centuries, we have the privilege of making this journey in the company of God’s word; a wonderful treasure, a precious guide along the way.
