Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

This Sunday we have our annual Children's Day Service when the children of Primetime and Beginners' Sunday School will be leading the service. Our special guest speaker will be Mr Mark Beattie, and the service will be followed by a picnic in the grounds of the church. We meet again at 7pm (prayertime at 6.30pm) for our evening service which will be on the theme of 'Faithfulness' with another guest, Mr David Morrison.

We meet this Sunday morning at 11am when the theme of our service will be 'Partners in Mission'. Two of our own members Ricky and Marlene Ferguson will be sharing with us about their work with Wycliffe Bible Translators. We are really looking forward to this opportunity, not simply to hear from Ricky and Marlene, but also to have our vision enlarged as we hear of Bible translation work around the world. Praise Group will be leading and there will also be a supervised creche / children's provision / teenage Bible Class.

This Sunday morning (11am) we move towards the end of 2 Samuel in our series on the life of David. If you have the chance to read ahead take some time to read through 2 Samuel chapter 22 ... read it slowly at one go and get the big picture of what David is saying about the LORD as he looks back over his life. One image in the text is of the LORD as David's 'rock' a picture that will also be explored in our talk with the kids. Our service will include supervised crèche / full children's provision and praise led by our Praise Group.

For many years Tearfund has been a key friend and partner of Ballyhenry. Tearfund's new CEO (Nigel Harris) and their Global Fundraising Director (Jane Pleace) recently visited Belfast and shared their heart and vision for Tearfund in an interview with Tearfund NI Director Tim Magowan.

This Sunday morning we meet for morning worship at 11am. Our service will include the celebration of 'The Lord's Supper' (also called Communion). The service (which will be based around the theme of 'Fruitfulness') will be shared by Niall and Rev Colin Morrison. Colin is 'Moderator' of the North Belfast Presbytery and we look forward to welcoming him to Ballyhenry. Our Praise Group will be leading and as usual there will be a full children's provision and supervised creche.
