Sandyknowes Blog

Living beside the busiest roundabout in Northern Ireland gives plenty of opportunity for watching the world go by. Sandyknowes Blog is the personal blog of Niall Lockhart (minister of Ballyhenry). Pull in and have a read…

It's Olympics time - and this Sunday we will be picking up on that theme introducing our service with words from the Apostle Paul:

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Run in such a way as to get the prize.’ (1 Corinthians 9 vs 24-25)

We'll be tying this in to our Children's Talk, and alongside this we will be hearing about some upcoming outreach work being done by the band Reality.

This Sunday we meet for our morning service in Ballyhenry at 11am. We have a supervised creche and our special summer children's programme entitled Streetwise. At our service we will be beginning a new short series entitled 'The Shepherd and the Sheep.' In this series we will will be looking at how this theme is developed through both Old and New Testaments and how it can enrich and deepen our understanding of what it means to know and follow Christ. This week we are looking at Psalm 23 'The Lord is my shepherd', with Niall due to give the talk.

During the month of July you will be really welcome any Sunday morning in Ballyhenry. Our morning services continue through the month at 11am. Each service will include music led by our Praise Group, a fully supervised creche and Streetwise our special Summer Sunday School programme.

Evening services and home based Fellowship Groups rest over the summer months however we do have a midweek meeting on Wednesday 22nd July at 8pm (with a prayertime at 7.30pm).

The word 'historic' is an often overworked adjective, and yet this week we have experienced what can genuinely be described as historic events. The United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union, the Prime Minister has given notice of resignation, and the shockwaves of 'Brexit' continue to reverberate around the world.

As Christian people how should we react to these events? What does it look like to react in a way that is honouring to God and shaped by the Bible.

According to David Cameron this coming Thursday voters across the United Kingdom face what is possibly the biggest national decision of many of our lifetimes.

According to Boris Johnston this Thursday voters across the United Kingdom face what is possibly the biggest national decision of many of our lifetimes.

One thing that political rivals and opponents agree on is that the EU in/out referendum scheduled for this Thursday is a moment of real significance for this and for future generations.
