Biblical reflections on a momentous week

Biblical reflections on a momentous week

By Niall Lockhart

The word 'historic' is an often overworked adjective, and yet this week we have experienced what can genuinely be described as historic events. The United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union, the Prime Minister has given notice of resignation, and the shockwaves of 'Brexit' continue to reverberate around the world.

As Christian people how should we react to these events? What does it look like to react in a way that is honouring to God and shaped by the Bible.

Below are a number of links which you may find helpful in this regard.

On the Sunday before the Referendum we looked at the whole question of 'Christian Citizenship' in the context of a moment of natonal decision making. The full text of this talk can be read by clicking here.

On the Friday after the Referendum the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church Dr Frank Sellar issued a statement on before of the wider church. The Moderator's statement can be accessed by clicking here.

Many other pieces and articles have been published from a Christian perspective on-line, both in the lead up to the Referendum and following the result. One particularly helpful piece I read comes from Tim Chester. Tim is pastor of the Crowded House in Sheffield, and is also a writer and church planter. His article entitled 'After the EU Referendum' can be read by clicking here.
