Psalm 32 - My Hiding Place
Psalm 32 - My Hiding Place
Read: Psalm 32 vs 1-11
This morning when I got up I looked in the mirror. Looking in a mirror lets you see what you are like (sometimes not a pretty picture!) The Bible describes itself as a mirror (James 1:23). We all have our own ideas of what we ‘look like’, we all have our own aspirations of what we would like to look like, but it is only when we look in the Bible that we see what we are really like.
When we turn to face Psalm 32 we immediately see things that shock us, and things that we might otherwise deny. This Psalm speaks of ‘transgressions’ that need to be forgiven, of ‘sins’ that need to be covered (vs 1) and of ‘iniquities’ that need to be faced up to (vs 5).
There are two ways in which we can approach God, two ways in which we can think about relationship with Him. We can approach Him through speculation, essentially guessing, having our own thoughts, trying to form our ideas of who He is, who we are and how we can know Him. The other way we can approach God is by submitting to revelation, acknowledging that God has revealed truths that we would not otherwise know, and that he has revealed these in His word, the Bible.
We are not animals (vs 9), God has given us reason and minds that can think, and reflect, and process language and words over time. So God wants to guide and counsel us in His truth as we listen to His teaching and instruction (vs 8). He wants us to trust what his word says about Him and what His word says about us and our greatest needs. He wants to be a hiding place (vs 7) for all whose sins are forgiven and for all who cling to His Son as the Saviour they most need.
Prayer: Lord I acknowledge my need of a Saviour. Please forgive my transgressions. Lead me day by day in the way that I should go.
