The World Was Not Worthy of Them

The World Was Not Worthy of Them

In August 2013 Ramez and Rebecca Atallah visited Ballyhenry. Ramez serves as general director of the Bible Society in Egypt and vice chair of the Lausanne Movement. In February of this year media outlets around the world carried the gruesome story of the execution of 21 Egyptian migrant workers in Libya. Their captors described them as 'People of the Cross'. This was the charge against them, this was why they died.

Within the last number of days Ramez Atallah has published a letter to encourage and challenge Christians around the world in light of these harrowing events. It is also a letter with specific points for prayer at this time. The letter is entitled 'The World Was Not Worthy of Them', drawing on the words of Hebrews 11 vs 37-38:

They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated, the world was not worthy of them.'
