Psalm 28 - My Rock
Psalm 28 - My Rock
There is something very special about the morning of Easter Day. A garden tomb, a stone rolled away, a risen Saviour and amazed witnesses, it is is so many ways the centre piece, the moment, at the heart of Christian faith.
However, for me personally, there has always been something very special about the evening of Easter Day. I love the story told in Luke’s gospel of how that evening Jesus appeared to two of his followers on the road to a small village called Emmaus. The story is told in Luke 24 vs 13-49. I would encourage you to read it.
Those two followers were baffled and devastated that evening. Jesus had died and at that moment they didn’t know anything more. It seems that for whatever reason they didn’t recognise Jesus as he walked with them. He asked them what they had been talking about and they began to share their heart, their feelings, their brokenness as they related the events of the last few days. Eventually they arrived in Emmaus and they sat down to share a meal. Jesus opened the Scriptures to them and he began to explain how the whole of the Old Testament story pointed to Him. Jesus’ words making a stunning connection between the Old and New Testaments of our Bibles:
He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’
The whole of the Bible tells one story, with Easter at the heart of that story. It’s is as we read God’s word that, through eyes of faith, we recognise Jesus for who He is.
Psalm 28, like every Psalm points us to who Jesus is and helps us to see Him more clearly. He is the ‘Rock’ (vs 1) for all who believe. He is the One who was lifted from ‘the pit’ of death, the One. In our place He was dragged away with the wicked (vs 3) when He was crucified on the cross. But the ‘joy’ of Easter Day (vs 7) breaks through the darkness for all who look to Him for rescue and salvation (vs 8). On this Day of days may we all see Him more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more nearly. So may our hearts leap for joy and our songs be songs of praise.
Prayer: Risen Lord Jesus help me, at this time, to grow in my knowledge of you, in my trust of you, and in my joy of knowing you day by day.
