Hey Jude ... going further

Hey Jude ... going further

This morning we had the first in a two part series 'Hey Jude'. In real terms the talk focused on one verse (vs 1). In this verse Jude talks about the identity of the person who has been saved by Christ, and in particular what it means to be 'called', 'loved' and 'kept'. It's interesting the overlaps there are with the story of Samuel (1 Samuel 3 vs 1-21) which we looked at in the children's talk.

There were a number of quotes / references in the talk which I've added in below in case they of interest. (Clicking on the links will take you to further information which you may find helpful).

Ajith Fernando (student Christian leader from Sri Lanka: 'There is such security in knowing our salvation is something God initiated and did a huge work to win! It does not depend upon our performance, but on God’s work in us.’

I also quoted Prof John Wyatt who made what I think was a very helpful comment about how for the Christian, called of God, there is something fundamental about their identity in Christ that cannot be taken away, even (for example) by dementia.

We also took in a couple of Old Testament quotations that talk about how God can keep us in times of trouble (Isaiah 26 vs 3) and when faced by temptation (Psalm 19 vs 13).

At the end of this morning's service we sang the Benediction song which was new to us last week. You can listen to Matt Redman singing this song on You Tube by clicking here.
