Daily Strength - When feeling inadequate

Daily Strength - When feeling inadequate

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’ (2 Corinthians 12 vs 9-10 NIV)

The Apostle Paul lived in a culture where ‘strength’ was celebrated and ‘weakness’ was despised. At every level in society, from the palaces of power to the daily round of city life, those who were strong rose to the top and those who were weak were left far behind.

The word ‘Christ’ means ‘God’s chosen King.’ When Paul became a follower of Christ he set out to follow a King who had not stormed to power but who had come in weakness and who defeated sin and death by laying down His life upon a cross.

Understanding how God brought glory to Himself through the weakness of Jesus transformed how Paul looked upon himself. Looking to the cross he began to realise that God delights to work when human hope is gone. When we feel strong we can feel that we have no real need of God. For the person of faith being weak can become a place where we meet King Jesus in a new and powerful way, knowing His touch, His enabling, and His power resting on us.

Prayer: King Jesus help me to be honest about my weaknesses. I bring these to You and I pray for Your strength today. Amen.
