Daily Strength - when feeling cut off

Daily Strength - when feeling cut off

‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ (Romans 8 vs 38-39 NIV)

The Apostle Paul loved people and he took both comfort and security in having family and friends around him (see for example Acts 16:23, Philemon 1:7). When Paul was separated from those close to him he really felt it and he found being apart hard (2 Timothy 1:4). It is a very natural thing to struggle with separation, whether that is being in the same room as someone and having to keep your distance, not being able to travel to visit a loved one, or being in a vulnerable situation and not being able to have those who are closest to you physically there and present with you. The pain of separation reaches a different level all together when the being apart comes with the loss of death. Separation hurts and separation leaves us feeling sore and often alone.

Against this background there is a boldness in Romans 8 vs 38-39. Paul was a real person, who carried weaknesses, personal vulnerabilities and hurts. But in these verses Paul shares how he had become convinced of a love, a bond, a security, that nothing, nothing, can separate him from.

Nothing in life, nothing in death, nothing in the present, nothing in the future, could separate Paul from the love of God in Christ. It’s a big promise, a strong promise for all who name Jesus as Lord. Deep comfort. Deep security.

Prayer: Father thank You for Your unbreakable love. Hold me close to You today. Thank You that NOTHING can separate me from Your love in Christ Jesus. Amen.
